As a knitwear designer, I have occasionally done my own product photography. Many of my designs were for children, and I learned quickly that one secret to working with child models is to give them a role in a story and keep them in motion.

The story of the scarf shown above was that it had a lined pocket that would protect the handknit scarf from getting sticky. We shot the photos in a charming candy shop in downtown Austin. The model was promised candy rewards for helping with photography.
The throwing stars and nunchuck photos (top right and below) were for my book Kung Fu Knits. The model had a black belt in kung fu, so knew how to properly wield those soft, knitted nunchucks. We shot the photos on the side of Austin's children's museum. The building's red wall complemented the color palette and comic book content in the book.
